Everton have announced that Ronald Koeman has stepped down as manager in the wake of Sunday’s disappointing defeat at home to Arsenal.
The Dutchman was brought to Goodison Park in June 2016 after impressing during a two-year stint at Premier League rivals Southampton.
The Toffees finished seventh in Koeman’s first season at the helm to qualify for the Europa League, but they have struggled this term following heavy investment in the squad by the club’s new owner.
Koeman’s side went into the weekend fixture having won just two of their opening eight league matches, and a 5-2 loss to the Gunners saw them drop into the relegation zone on goal difference.
The 54-year-old claimed in his post-match press conference that he could still turn things around, but has vacated his role less than 24 hours later.
A statement released by the Merseyside outfit on Monday read: “Everton football club can confirm that Ronald Koeman has left the club.
