Indian hockey goalkeeper PR Sreejesh has been handed a 15-day suspension and will be on a 12-month probation for playing in a charity football match without taking Hockey India's permission. Sreejesh featured in goal for the Virat Kohli-led side named All Heart FC, which took on Ranbir Kapoor's All Star FC in Mumbai.

D ouble Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar has also quit his role as a National Sports Observer for wrestling. The 34-year-old wrestler was among 12 national observers appointed by the then Sports Minister Vijay Goel in March. Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore thanked Sushil and Mary Kom for their services and said the government will continue to benefit from their rich insights and expertise.

Five-time world champion M C Mary Kom has resigned as the national observer for Indian boxing after Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore made it clear that active sportspersons will not be considered for the position. The 35-year-old Olympic bronze-medallist was  among 12 national observers appointed by the then Sports Minister Vijay Goel in March.

Indian cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar will flag off the second edition of the IDBI Federal Life Insurance Kolkata Marathon at Red Road here on February 4. Chennai will host matches in the third edition of Premier Badminton League (PBL) at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium from January 5 to 9, 2018. The tournament gets underway on December 23. The finals of the eight-team tournament are slated to be held on January 14, 2018.
