James Hopes appointed Delhi Daredevils bowling coach

Former Australia all-rounder James Hopes has been appointed the bowling coach of the Delhi Daredevils for the eleventh edition of the IPL. The 39-year-old will be working with his ex-captain Ricky Ponting, who is the head coach of the Delhi franchise. Subhadeep Ghosh, ex-Assam and Railways first-class cricketer will take over as the fielding coach of the new-look franchise. He retired from the game in 2016 and has done coaching duties at Queensland and Brisbane Heat at the Big Bash League.

Pujara to prepare for England tour with Yorkshire stint

Cheteshwar Pujara  will warm up for India's Test series in England by playing county cricket for Yorkshire. Pujara will share overseas duties with New Zealand captain Kane Williamson. Pujara had two spells at Nottinghamshire last season and has also played county cricket for Derbyshire as he has become the most common India player on the county circuit.

Dhananjaya to replace injured Kusal Perera

Dhananjaya de Silva  will join the Sri Lanka ODI team that is currently playing the Tri-Nation Series in Bangladesh, as a replacement for the injured  Kusal Perera . Kusal suffered a side strain during his innings of 49 in Sri Lanka's match  against Zimbabwe  on Sunday. He has been advised rest, and will miss the rest of the tournament.

IPL to begin on April 7

The 2018 season of the IPL will begin on April 7 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai with the final scheduled for May 27 at the same venue. Defending champions Mumbai Indians will play the tournament opener, and their opponent will be revealed when the IPL releases the match schedule this week.

Temba Bavuma ruled out

Temba Bavuma  will take no part in South Africa's ongoing Test series against India after fracturing his right finger during a domestic one-day cup match on January 17. Bavuma will need three to four weeks of recovery time but will remain part of the Test squad, with the selectors opting not to name a replacement batsman. South Africa already have an extra batsman in  Theunis de Bruyn , who, like Bavuma, has not played in either of the two already completed Tests. Bavuma is expected to recover in time for the four Test series against Australia, which begins on March 1.

Mathews out for two ODIs

Sri Lanka's limited-overs captain  Angelo Mathews  has been sidelined with a hamstring injury for two matches in the ongoing tri-series in Bangladesh. Mathews will miss Friday's ODI against Bangladesh as well as their next match against Zimbabwe on Sunday. Dinesh Chandimal  will lead Sri Lanka in his absence.  Mathews had recently been  reappointed  Sri Lanka's limited-overs captain after he had stepped down from the post in July last year.

Michael Hussey appointed batting coach of Chennai Super Kings

The Chennai Super Kings seem to be making a return to the IPL in style. After retaining MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja, the crux of their erstwhile successful team, the side have appointed Michael Hussey as their batting coach for the 11th edition of the IPL. Hussey's former teammates Ricky Ponting and Brad Hodge will be coaching the Delhi Daredevils and Kings XI Punjab respectively.

Ponting named Daredevils coach

Former Australia captain  Ricky Ponting  will return to the IPL this season, this time as head coach of Delhi Daredevils. Ponting takes over from Paddy Upton and former India captain Rahul Dravid. The franchise is yet to win a title in 10 seasons. Ponting had coached Mumbai Indians to their second IPL title in 2015, but the franchise chose to not renew his two-year contract when it expired in 2016. He had joined the franchise as a player in 2013, but stepped away midway through the tournament due to poor form. Ponting also worked with Mumbai Indians in an advisory capacity in 2014. Prior to that, he was briefly part of Kolkata Knight Riders for the inaugural edition in 2008.
